Now I have to see how the movie compares, though I already dislike the fact it takes place in New Jersey-NYC vs. Cambridge/Boston-NYC. But I’m biased.

I just finished this book and it was exceptional. The writing is beautiful and although simple, not even the smallest detail in any character’s life goes without description.

“Gogol is unaccustomed to this sort of talk at mealtimes, to the indulgent ritual of the lingering meal, and the pleasant aftermath of bottles and crumbs and empty glasses that clutter the table.”

It was an powerful insight into Indian immigrant’s experiences dealing with culture assimilation and generational struggles and I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

“That’s the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.”
